Methodologie in Communication Arts Design Annual

Topics discussed:

The November/December 2009 issue of Communication Arts showcases the award-winning designs from the magazine’s 50th juried competition. Two Methodologie designs made the list this year: our exhibition design for AIGA’s annual design showcase, and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle’s 2008 Report of Affordable Housing and Community Investment Initiatives.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle’s 2008 report details the current crisis in affordable housing and emphasizes why federal funding for housing programs is so vital. The report looks at the Seattle Bank’s funding throughout the years and the dramatic impact it has had on individuals, families, and communities. Our design for AIGA’s 365 exhibition used painting equipment and supplies (such as buckets, ladders, and roller trays) as construction materials rather than using them for their intended purpose. This preserved the equipment and supplies in like-new condition so AIGA could donate them after the show to Publicolor, a nonprofit that mentors at-risk youth while teaching them commercial painting skills.
